William McCoy, Marriage and Family Therapist, M.A., Doctor of Education, M.S., L.M.F.T. I have 30 years of experience helping clients develop communication skills that assists them to live more meaningful lives and develop and maintain lasting and fulfilling relationships. The essence of my work is to provide a high level of service to optimize the likelihood of client satisfaction and a strong sense of problem solving. I take pride in my strong academic background prior to embarking upon a career in psychotherapy and couples counseling.
I possess four college degrees, including a B.S. in Early Childhood Education, MA in Education Psychology, Doctorate in Education from UCLA and MS in Marriage and Family Counseling.
Prior to my work as a Family Therapist, I taught Sociology for 19 years in the California State University System. Shortly after receiving my MFT degree, I left teaching and worked in Private Practice, including treating patients at a Worker’s Compensation Clinic and treating and assessing patients at boarding care homes. Additionally, I worked as a Child Abuse Investigator for the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services. I am most proud of my work at Del Amo Hospital, a Psychiatric Hospital in Torrance California, where I worked for 13 years. It was here that I gained tremendous experience treating patients with psychosis, schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder, depression, PTSD, anxiety, substance abuse issues, and suicide ideation.
In recent years, I worked extensively as a Military and Family Life Counselor on U.S. military bases in California, Hawaii and Germany. This entailed providing short-term and problem-solving counseling to active-duty military and their families. This included couples counseling, child counseling, and individual counseling in the areas of PTSD, depression, anxiety, deployment and reintegration issues, crisis counseling, stress management and grief counseling.

This enhances the client’s ability for honest and forthright self-disclosure, thus leading to removal of obstacles for happiness and inner peace. I have 30 years of experience helping clients develop communication skills that assist them to live more meaningful lives and develop and maintain lasting and fulfilling relationship. The essence of my work is to provide a high level of service to optimize the likelihood of client satisfaction and a strong sense of problem solving. My extensive counseling work with children has helped set the foundation for developing the necessary sensitivities that are so vital for success as a family counselor. I have strived to allow the innocence of childhood to mold and be the foundation of my adult work.
